Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge - Day 10

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge Look Day 10 by Conscious by Chloé

TGIF! I'm not gonna lie, this challenge has been slightly more tedious than the previous one and I'm ready to dive back into my closet.

Still, I'm pretty happy with this last look and hope you'll enjoy it too!

My Day 10 Outfit

Comfortable meets playful, wait until the next picture and you'll know what I mean.

Style Notes

Working with a capsule wardrobe becomes harder and harder when you approach the last couple days, but it's a great challenge to get creative.

I was very proud the first time I thought about wearing my cardigan with the opening in the back. I may or may not have been inspired by a drawing from a French artist that's hanging in my bedroom. Anyway, I'm a sucker for sexy backs. They might not be the most winter-appropriate pieces of clothing, but working from home does have its perks, no commute, no jacket and slippers instead of shoes (except for pictures).

Have you ever worn a piece of clothing in a different way than the one it was designed to be (i.e. a shirt as a skirt)?

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge - Day 9

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge Look Day 9 by Conscious by Chloé

Guys, is it spring yet? Yesterday, as we were walking on Division St, I saw people wearing shorts. Shorts, in Portland, in February. I haven't even gone snowboarding yet!

My Day 9 Outfit

Well, to be honest, I'm not complaining at all about yesterday's sunny weather (though I'm very concerned about it) as I prefer to wear sneakers with bare ankles.

My second to last outfit of this winter 10x10 looks way too easy, but you cannot honestly expect miracles at the end of such a challenge.

Denim, sweater, leggings, sneakers. I'm pretty much up for anything. Going for a walk, moving more furniture into my studio or running errands around town with my favorite market bag.

Do you have any radical opinions on wearing shoes without socks? Just kidding, I'd rather know whether there's snow where you live, please send pictures!

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge - Day 8

consciousbychloe-2018-winter-10x10-day-8-3

Happy Humpday!

As expected, I woke up very, very early in Portland this morning in full jet-lag mode. This means, an early blog post, so I suppose it's a good thing.

My Day 8 Outfit

When I was living in Southern California, I attended the very first events of Connecting Things, an event series for creatives and doers. There, I got to meet Kohl Crecelius, the founder of Krochet Kids. I have a keen interest for businesses that give back and decided this year to sign up for a Causebox membership to discover more socially conscious companies. In the last box, I got this cute pompom beanie, which has been my favorite one ever since.

Amy & Jen, the co-founders of Odds and Sods were also members of Connecting Things and would sometimes come and work with us in our coworking studio. I'm wearing 2 of their pins on my jacket as a reminder of the power of sisterhood, wanderlust and magic!

Style Notes

I am not 100% sure about this outfit. While I like the playfulness of the pompom hat, I can't ignore the fact that the jacket is totally hiding my waist and ends up drawing a very rectangular figure.

What's our favorite socially conscious brand and why?

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge - Day 7

consciousbychloe-2018-winter-10x10-day-7-2

As you're reading this, I'm flying across the Atlantic back to Portland, OR. The past couple days days have been pretty emotional and though I felt it necessary and soothing to be with my family in this difficult time I'm also looking forward to jumping back into my daily routine. And I'll be back in Europe in a couple weeks so goodbyes weren't too weepy this time around!

My Day 7 Outfit

This look is definitely an indoor one as my forearms are pretty bare but, if I might say so, it might be my favorite so far.

  • Tee-shirt - The Bee and The Fox - Made in Mexico
  • Cardigan (DIY) - Made in France (by my mother-in-law) - Similar
  • Leggings (old) - American Apparel - Made in the USA (Los Angeles, CA) - Similar
  • Clogs - Sandgrens - Made in Sweden

consciousbychloe-2018-winter-10x10-day-7-3

Style Notes

I am totally in love with this cardigan and wear it pretty much daily on top of whatever I'm wearing underneath on that day.

I rarely wear contacts as the bulk of my work is done staring at screens. But as my statement earrings collection is growing bigger each season I've been wearing contacts a little more often lately (not the most sustainable choice, I'm well aware).

To be honest, I usually wear slippers at home, but for the sake of the picture, I did put on my favorite (and only) pair of heel-boots.

Do you also wear glasses? What's your sentiment on glasses and statement pieces of jewelry?

Winter 2018 10×10 Challenge - Day 6

consciousbychloe-2018-winter-10x10-day-6-1

Hi friends!

After a short unexpected hiatus spent with loved ones back home in France, I am back over here to share with you the rest of my winter 10x10 outfits.

consciousbychloe-2018-winter-10x10-day-6-2

My Day 6 Outfit

This outfit is highly inspired by my Day 3 Outfit only it's even cozier (cashmere worn directly on my skin) and more convenient (no need to take off my sweater to go to the restroom).

I have a three-decade-long love story with jumpsuits, overalls and their sister one-piece items of clothing. I'm still debating on getting denim overalls. If you find a cute vintage and not-too-boxy pair, hit me up!

Style Notes

This sweater is the one big purchase I made this season. I had gotten the same one in black the previous winter and I wore it so much that I decided to add another one to my closet, but this time in a lighter tone. Most of the muted tones were sold out and I was too excited to wait for a restock, so I got this lavender number and have not regretted it. I like the contrast with the black jumpsuit and could still easily add accessories in another color without cluttering the look.

For accessories, I decided to err on the side of minimalism with a pair of earrings I got in Morocco many years ago and a thin necklace I won in a contest even longer ago (I named it the Bad, the Good and the Queen re. the colors of the tiny skulls).

I still am too lazy to try anything fancy in terms of hair styling. Using a wand to create those waves is as far as I will go. But I did steal a wooden hairpin from my mom last week so things might change in the coming weeks as my hair is starting to get long enough.

Talking about laziness. I hate bringing clothes to the dry cleaners because they're pricey and most of them are far from environment-friendly, so I hand-wash my cashmere sweaters at home, then roll them in a towel to absorb excess water and finally lay them flat on a dry towel until they're dry.

Do you also come up with creative hacks to avoid pricey or non-earth-friendly practices when it comes to taking care of your clothes? Do you have a secret stain-remover recipe? Please send it my way!
