Make Your Own Coffee Scrub

I have a slight obsession which consists in finding ways to reuse kitchen waste and food scraps before composting them.

This translates into growing avocado trees from pits, cooking stock from veggie scraps and making vinegar with citrus peels.

Most recently, I've had the challenge to get creative with coffee grounds.

As I mentioned before, and as you can see in the "Latte Art" section of my Instagram Stories, Octave is quite the home barista now, so coffee grounds pile up in a bowl by our kitchen sink.

I use ground coffee on our plants (sparingly), to scrub pots and to make the simplest 3-ingredient face and body scrub.

Coffee, sugar and coconut oil are all you need to make this exfoliating and nourishing beauty product.

PS: It makes for a quick and personal Valentine's gift...

Coffee Body Scrub

Supplies

  • 1 part ground coffee
  • 1/2 part coconut oil
  • 1/2 part sugar (granutaled, white, brown or coconut)

Tools

Instructions

  • Melt the coconut oil if it's in solid form (I prefer double boiling to microwaving).
  • Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Transfer the mixture into an airtight container.

Notes

Use on your face and body once or twice a week.
Be careful if using it in the tub or shower as it can get very slippery.
Also be mindful that coffee grounds and oils could clog your pipes. You can use a wet cloth to wipe your face and body and catch them or a shower strainer* to prevent coffee grounds from getting into your pipes.
