Whenever Octave leaves town and I have the opportunity to spend some time alone at home. Something irremediably happens: I start moving furniture all around the house!
It's a way for me to reappropriate the space, flex my interior designer muscles and give our little house a breath of fresh air.
Our bedroom situation is not the easiest to furnish: 4 walls (duh), 2 windows, 2 doors, 1 air vent under one of the windows, 0 bare wall.
The best situation I had found until now, so we would each have space to walk around the bed and room for a bedside table was to put the bed in the middle of the room far enough from the window so the air can circulate through the vent and so we wouldn't freeze our brains against it in the winter. But this meant no head support for reading - since we do not have a headboard (I'm totally considering DIYing one next summer).
Strangely enough, I had not changed this configuration in close to a year, and then, I got a package from SOL Organics with brand new white & organic cotton bedding and knew it was time to spruce things up a little.
I switched the bedroom rug with the living room one, ditched one of the 2 bedside "tables", brought in plants, and piled pillows to create the coziest reading nook on my bed.
Our bed is a queen but our comforter is a king. I learned that trick a couple of years ago. I love a comforter that cascades around the bed and hides our ugly bed frame. I love its weight and having the luxury to be able to get lost under the sheets without fighting for the covers with your partner.
As for pillowcases - if duvet covers and pillowcases come as a set - I either make small alterations so they fit my queen-sized pillows or, like here, I put two of them in each pillowcase.
If I ever have to buy new pillows, I might upgrade to king-sized ones too. But I'm happy with our current set. We'll see when the time comes!
I read somewhere that a great way to make your room fresh and cozy is to pretend you're in a hotel room.
And, to me, nothing says hotel room better than soft white sheets. There's something so luxurious about having soft, quality white sheets! They make a room bright, give a feeling of peace, and are simply a perfect blank canvas that allows small details to stand out, like a bright-colored pillow, plants, or a piece of artwork.
SOL Organics is an organic and fair-trade bedding company. Their products are free from chemicals and pesticides, grown using sustainable and fair practices, and shipped without plastic! Additionally, $7.50 from each sale go to one of the four charities they support.
I chose the SOL Organics Classic Organic Bedding Bundle and it's the softest cotton I've ever had the chance to sleep in. I highly recommend you order a set should you want to invest in sustainable and quality bedding that will have a big impact on your sleep experience.
