6 Books on my December Reading List to Start 2023 on the Right Foot

I've been thinking about the upcoming year way earlier than usual. I'm already brainstorming my word of the year, I started writing down ideas for my 23 for 2013 list, and I started writing a list of things I look forward to.

In order to start 2023 on the right foot, I figured I'd read (or re-read) books that would get me inspired and motivated to do great things next year.

I'm so excited to get ready for the new year, plan fun activities, and implement new habits.

Visit your local library, support your favorite independant bookstore, let's get reading!

Oh and please share your recommendations with me. The days are getting really short, and I'd rather be reading than watching TV (though I've doing a lot of that lately... and that's OK)!

1. The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

You may or may not know that I've been listening to the Happiness podcast with Gretchen Rubin since 2015! I talk about my experience reading The Happiness Project in my 2016 new year article. Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a month of the year, starting in January, so now is the perfect time to get it or borrow it from your library!

2. Atomic Habits by James Clear

I'm currently reading this one, which has been recommended to me countless times. The examples illustrated really well the points the author makes in every chapter. I haven't finished reading yet, but can already imagine the systems I'm gonna put in place to implement new habits. Start small, be consistent is my takeaway so far...

3. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Be Impeccable With Your Word. Don't Take Anything Personally. Don't Make Assumptions. Always Do Your Best. That's all there is to say!

4. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

A beautiful testimony on how to live a creative life. I read it a couple years ago but remember the inspiration and motivation I drew from it, even though I do not consider myself a typical creative person.

5. Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

When I think about Brene Brown, the first word that comes to ming mind is vulnerability. But after reading Daring Greatly, courage now also comes to mind. The title sums it up: "How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead".

6. 10% Happier by Dan Harris

I tried to listen to the 10% Happier years ago but never stuck to it. I never managed to stick to a meditation practice either. Let's see whether "10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works--A True Story" helps the wheels inside my brain stop spinning so fast. It is next on my reading list!

I'm excited about my December reading list! I usually don't reread books, but these are really calling me right now!

What books are you inspired to read right now? Anything that has made you rethink how you live your life in the past?
