For some reason, a word of the year hasn't come to me yet, but I did keep a list in my notes and took a few screenshots that took a More/Less form, a trend attributed to illustrator and NYT columnist Julia Rothman that has been taking an "Ins-and-Outs" shape on social media in the past couple of years.

I keep the list in my Notes app, and I am also considering putting it on paper and displaying it above my desk, most probably.

I actually just remembered my 2016 intentions list and realized I had created a printable version for this exact purpose!

It looks a little dated, but I quickly updated it so you can download and print it if you want to!

Out

  • Mindless scrolling after dinner
  • Wondering what others are thinking
  • Gossiping
  • Plastic (esp. in clothing)
  • Negative self-talk
  • Online shopping
  • Bad posture
  • Store-bought sweets

Keeping this list is making me really happy, I'm amazed at how long the "In" list has gotten in the last few days! I'm taking notice of little things that are making me happy, like the reflection of the sun in my rainbow crystal, or how good I feel after sharing a piece of homemade pie with friends at home.

I regularly check back on the "Out" list to keep myself in check. I add to it as I read or watch documentaries. When I find myself in a situation that makes me feel uncomfortable, I also try to figure out what the issue is and sometimes realize that I can resolve it by changing my behavior (i.e. by putting my phone away after 7 pm so I don't go to bed exhausted after hours of mindless scrolling).

For now, this is my way of journaling, I guess.
