Happy new year!
I hope your year started as beautifully as mine did. I went on a hike, swam in a frozen lake, and shared a delicious meal afterward!
Since 2019, I've been writing a list of goals I want to achieve in the coming year (you can find them here). Yesterday, I put the final touch on the list of 23 things I want to achieve in 2023.
This time, I tried to include tangible goals, rather than "habits" or "resolutions" which will be the subject of a future article.
Many items are repeats from previous years, others have become traditions (read x number of books), and some I may not be able to achieve but want to work towards.
Here's my list for 2023:
1. Read 23 books
Let's get reading, here's my 2023 reading list!
2. Do the crow pose
I struggle a lot with my arm strength and want to set a goal to practice it. The crow pose seems like an interesting one.
3. Get an MRI, follow up
I've been working on tracking symptoms for quite a while now and finally made an appointment for 2023, I hope to get the answers I need. And if not, I want to keep looking.
4. Go to the East coast
Many of my close friends now live on the East Coast. I'd love to go back to NYC, and visit Maine for the very first time.
5. Try kite surfing
I've been meaning to try it forever but never did. If it's on the list I might do it. I'll make sure to add it to my summer bucket list.
6. Spend a night in a lookout
I've added the booking opening dates on my calendar, this year I won't miss it!
7. Design and sell digital products
I'd like to challenge myself to design something from scratch, I don't draw, and I'm not computer savvy for anything design-related. A tangible goal might help.
8. Get a new tattoo
I've been overthinking getting a new tattoo for way too long. Why am I finding it harder as I get older?
9. Relax in a hot spring
There are so many cool spots in my area. It's the perfect excuse to get away for the weekend and hike, camp, and relax in hot water, whatever the season!
10. Relaunch the Zero Waste Challenge
How many years in a row will I have to put it on my list for it to actually happen?
11. Celebrate the full moon
Friends of mine bake a cake at every full moon. I might start doing this or find another way to mark the passage of time.
12. Try paddle boarding
I can almost do that "in my backyard". "Something that can be done at any time is often done at no time", so I need to commit.
13. Give blood
It's a repeat goal, that hasn't happened in a while because people who grew up in France when I did cannot donate blood in the US. Next European visit = donate blood.
Update: It looks like the restrictions have changed and I might be able to donate in the US. I'll keep you posted!
14. Swim for the solstices
I love rituals but do not want religion or capitalism to choose when I should rejoice. So this year, I'm going to celebrate the longer and shorter day of the year, starting with a hot and a cold swim. It's not much but it's a start!
15. Make kefir water
I've been meaning to try it forever. If anyone has grains to share, hit me up!
16. Learn a new language, get a certification
I'm brushing up on my German, started Portuguese, and am curious about Navajo. (wanna join me?). That might be a good excuse to travel more this year!
17. Quilt something
I have made many items out of thrifted quilts and would really want to make my own quilt someday. But I might simply start with a couple of quilt squares.
18. Send cards or letters
I want to connect 1 on 1 with people from afar without using modern technology. I might DIY my own cards (remember these?) using the following goal.
19. Learn block printing
I've had the supplies on my wishlist for a little bit, I might ask for help in my local Buy Nothing group or wait until my birthday to get them.
20. Buy nothing
I'm currently reading Buy Nothing, Get everything and am inspired to curb my consumption this year. Use what I have and pay a little more attention to my shopping habits. I might start with a month, like in 2021.
21. Make suncatchers
Is it cheating if I've already made a date to make them with a friend today? I thought I'd start the year on the right foot and get motivated if I cross something off my list right away!
22. Start a breathwork practice
I just signed up for a 30-day free challenge. We'll see how it goes...
23. Bonus goal
This may be a bonus goal, this may be a secret goal. I might reveal at my mid-year check-in.
I'm gonna let this list simmer a little and put it to paper in my new year planner (use this link for 10% off)
